Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Data Shield by KeyNet, published under KeyNet Apps, accesses and handles information on Android devices, and how the KeyNet Apps website handles information voluntarily submitted through its support form.

Effective date: 5 September 2026

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Android application Data Shield by KeyNet (package name com.keynet.datashield) and to the KeyNet Apps website at keynetapps.netlify.app.

The current Data Shield Free v1.0 build is designed as an on-device security utility and does not require a KeyNet account, subscription, advertising service, analytics service, cloud firewall backend, or remote VPN server.

2. How Data Shield works

Data Shield is an on-device per-app firewall. It uses Android's VpnService framework so the user can choose which installed apps may use the network.

Apps marked as blocked are routed into a local VPN interface and their packets are discarded on the device. Apps marked as allowed bypass that local firewall path. Data Shield does not route the user's traffic through a KeyNet-operated remote VPN server and is not designed to change the user's geographic location.

3. Information accessed on the device

To provide its core firewall features, Data Shield may access:

  • Installed app information, including app names and package names, so the user can view installed apps and set per-app Allow or Block rules.
  • Network traffic processed through Android VpnService for the purpose of enforcing the user's local firewall choices.
  • Network status information, such as whether Wi-Fi, mobile data, Ethernet, or VPN connectivity is active, for local status display.
  • Firewall rules, preferences, and local activity records generated by the user's use of the app.

These items are used locally on the device for firewall control, status information, and local reporting.

4. Installed-app visibility

Data Shield may use Android package visibility capabilities, including broad installed-app visibility where permitted, because its core feature is to let the user select arbitrary installed apps for per-app firewall rules.

Installed-app inventory is used for this on-device firewall interface and is not transmitted by Data Shield to KeyNet Apps, sold, or shared with advertisers.

5. Data collection and sharing

The current Data Shield Free v1.0 build is designed so that it does not collect or share required Google Play user data types off-device.

  • No advertising SDK or ad network is included.
  • No analytics or behavioral tracking service is included.
  • No KeyNet cloud account is required.
  • No KeyNet-operated remote VPN endpoint is used.
  • No installed-app inventory is uploaded to KeyNet Apps.
  • No firewall rules or local firewall logs are automatically uploaded to KeyNet Apps.

If a future version adds cloud services, analytics, advertising, accounts, remote networking, or other off-device data handling, this policy and the corresponding Google Play disclosures will be updated.

6. Local storage, retention, and deletion

Data Shield may store firewall preferences, local rule configuration, and local activity records on the user's Android device so the app can remember settings and display local reports.

Local app data remains on the device until changed or removed by the user, cleared through Android app settings, or removed when the app is uninstalled, subject to Android platform behavior.

Where the app provides an export function, the export is initiated by the user and saved to a destination chosen by the user. Data Shield does not automatically upload that exported file to KeyNet Apps.

7. Security

Data Shield is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping its firewall configuration and packet-filtering behavior on the Android device. The app relies on Android application storage and platform security mechanisms for its local data.

Because the current version does not operate a KeyNet remote firewall or VPN backend, KeyNet Apps does not store the user's firewall traffic, installed-app inventory, rules, or local logs on KeyNet servers through the Data Shield app.

8. Accounts, ads, and payments

The current Data Shield Free v1.0 build does not require a KeyNet account or sign-in, does not contain advertising, and does not require an in-app purchase, paid membership, or subscription to access its core functionality.

9. Children

Data Shield is intended for an adult target audience and is not designed or marketed as a children's app.

10. KeyNet Apps website and support form

The KeyNet Apps website is separate from the Data Shield Android app. If a user voluntarily submits the website support form, the information entered in that form (for example, name, email address, topic, and message) may be processed by Netlify or the configured form-processing service for the purpose of receiving and responding to the support request.

Website support-form information is not automatically collected by the Data Shield Android app.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Data Shield or the KeyNet Apps website changes its functionality or data-handling practices. The effective date shown above will be updated when a revised policy is published.
